Taking a teacher to the woodshed

From the Neal Boortz Show:

GOVERNMENT SCHOOL TEACHER GETS SCHOOLED!

I love it! And not just any government school teacher .. a unionized government school teacher in New Jersey. Who did she get schooled by? The Governor, Chris Christie. Here's what happened. Governor Christie spoke to a small crowd in a church gymnasium the other day. (No .. .so far as we know the ACLU didn't raise a stink about a representative of government speaking in a building owned by a church.) The subject was budget cuts, property tax caps and other painful necessities that need to be done in order to get New Jersey's fiscal matters back in order.

Then it came time for questions. Unionized government employees don't like budget caps. Unionized government employees don't like caps on property taxes. Sooooo ... up to the mic steps union government school teacher Rita O'Neill-Wilson ... you know how I feel about women with hyphenated names ... make up your mind lady, either you're married or not! Anywaaaay .... Rita stands up and does not ask a question, she proceeds to complain about how much she is making (thanks to the taxpayers) and how she is entitled to more money. She tells the governor that if she were paid $3 an hour for the 30 children in her class, she would be earning $83,000 a year. She says she doesn't earn anywhere near that much (we will get to that claim in a second). Governor Christie interrupts her to remind her that she is earning a lot more if you include the cost of her benefits, which are generous considering her membership in a teachers union. Then Rita O'NeillhyphenWilson says that she has a master's degree and that she isn't being compensated for her education or her experience. Governor Christie's response? "Well, you know then that you don't have to do it." I love it! Christie for President! Remind this unionized government hack that NOBODY is forcing her to be a teacher and that she is perfectly free to sever the government ties and head out there to find another job that will pay her more. As if that response wasn't good enough, Christie slams one final nail in the coffin by reminding Rita O'Neill-Wilson that he would not be in this position of having to impose cuts in education if Rita's precious teachers union had agreed to a one-year salary freeze and a 1.5% increase in employee benefit contributions. Christie addresses Rita: "Your union said that is the greatest assault on public education in the history of the state ... That's why the union has no credibility, stupid statements like that."

If Rita is black this would make Governor Christie a racist. I'm assuming she's a woman, so he most certainly is a sexist.

Now - what about Rita hyphen-hyphen's income? Rita O'Neill-Wilson claims that a $83,000 salary is nowhere near what she earns. Too bad she works for the government and her salary is public record. Turns out that Rita O'Neill-Wilson earns a salary of $86,389 a year. On top of that, health benefits for family coverage in New Jersey can cost up to $22,000 a year. Add that to the cost of employing this woman, and Rita O'Neill-Wilson is costing the taxpayers well over $100,000 a year. On top of that, New Jersey ranks fourth in the entire nation in teacher pay. The average New Jersey teacher earns $63,154 a year, which is $13,000 higher than the per capita income in the state of New Jersey, which is $50,313. The median pay for New Jersey teachers with a master's degree is $66,212, which means that Rita O'Neill-Wilson is earning well above the average based on her education. Apparently that isn't good enough for the New Jersey teachers unions. Maybe they are just jealous of other unionized government workers. Police officers in New Jersey are the highest paid in the country, which an average base salary of $75,400 a year. The average firefighter earns $69,620 a year.

I know that there are many wunnerful government teachers out there. Rita isn't on that list.

Speaking of lessons learned...

I guess Joel over at The Ultimate Answer to Kings learned an important lesson too.

It sounds ... well... messy! (I just couldn't resist)

Lessons learned

Someone I respect and admire recently took a trip to the NKVD/Gestapo/KGB museum and came away from there with some valuable insights that essentially constitute lessons learned - hense the title of this post.

Here's just ONE of the points that really resonated with me.

3) The Bad People will have lots of help from your neighbors: The most disturbing moment for me in the KGB museum was not in the execution or interrogation/torture cells. It was realizing, while moving through the excellent exhibits on the mass deportations of Lithuanians after "liberation" by the Soviets in 1944, that most of the deportees (many of whom were subsequently executed or starved or died of exposure and disease) had been betrayed to the NKVD/KGB by their neighbors.

Go read it all, and in the process, work to expunge the false notion from your mind that it can't happen here!

OBlahBlah will attend graduation at Kalamazoo High School

I guess the plan is for The Prez to shake the hand of each and every graduating senior. Ahhh but there's a caveat. Each student must submit the following information to the Secret Service:

* Date of birth
* Social Security Number
* Status of citizenship

This is so that a background check can be performed on each and every one of them!

Two things leap to my mind here. First, it occurs to me that it's a good thing they didn't demand a birth certificate! Obongo himself couldn't (or wouldn't) comply with THAT! And secondly, isn't there a big ruckus currently over Arizona new law requiring the same sort of information on their residents? It's law that Obongo's own AG, Eric Holder, has denounced as "unconstitutional". But I guess our Dear Leader's wellbeing trumps all that.

Quote of the day

The legitimate "authority" of the state is spelled out in the U.S. Constitution. It is the Washington establishment that has abandoned that legitimate authority and granted to itself essentially unlimited powers. Therefore, there can be nothing more patriotic and "American" than opposing everything the central state proposes doing that would expand its scope and powers in any way.

With OBlahBlah, it's not what he says but what he does

Press Freedom, Sure. But No Questions.

There was some rich irony at the White House today -- President Obama signed the Press Freedom Act, and then promptly refused to take any questions.

The new law expands the State Department's annual human rights reports to include a description of press freedoms in each country. It seemed a good opportunity to showcase press freedom in this country.

Recall that last Friday the president refused to take any questions after delivering his angry statement on the oil spill in the Rose Garden. And he has not held a prime-time White House news conference in many months, despite much pleading from pundits and members of the media.

So after he signed the bill, and as the press "wranglers" began aggressively herding us out of the room, I asked if he still has confidence in BP. He ignored the question so I tried this: "In the interest of press freedom, would you take a couple questions on BP?"

That did elicit a smile, and he told me I was free to ask questions. Someone else shouted, "Will you answer them?"

He said he's not holding a press conference today as we were escorted out the door.

Read ANYTHING by this guy!

I’ve read Thomas DiLorenzo’s book, Hamilton’s Curse, and it’s excellent. Now I suppose I need to read The Real Lincoln as well, in order to undo the government school programming foisted off on me as a kid. As a Southerner I’ve long known that much of what passes for history these days is utter balderdash, but it never hurts to remove the garbage that's been placed in your skull by statist propagandists. Just be sure to replace it with something worthwhile!

But I digress…

Here’s a wonderful essay he published on LewRockwell.com that I’m sure you’ll enjoy. And if you still need an enticement to go further, well …here ya go…

For more than seventy years, Americans have lived under a judicial dictatorship that rubber-stamps all expansions of federal power, no matter how at odds they may be with the Constitution itself. The body of "constitutional law" that has developed during this time is nothing more than a bundle of tongue-twisting legalese designed to subvert and destroy any lasting vestiges of constitutional limitations on the powers of the central state.

In short, the government in Washington, D.C. has not been a government by consent since 1865. In response to the declaration by American citizens residing in the Southern states in 1860–61 that they no longer consented to being governed by Washington, D.C., the U.S. government waged war on the entire civilian population of the South, killing some 350,000 fellow American citizens, which is more Americans than died in all other wars combined. This number includes at least 50,000 civilians. On top of that, Southern cities and towns were burned to the ground, bombed, and plundered. The plundering continued for a decade after the war during the laughingly named "reconstruction" period.

These kind of people elected Obama

I'm no fan of Michael Savage (mainly because of his anti-gun stance) but give a listen to this caller!

When no one can tell you what to do

I happened to be heading south on I-95 yesterday. As usual, I was violating the posted speed limits, and consequently I had my eyes pealed for the state’s agents of revenue collection.

There are sections of the interstate where the highway’s designers purposely widened the medians and allowed patches of woods to remain. The only apparent purpose that I can see for these wooded medians is that they provide excellent concealment for the state sanctioned liberty thieves as they position themselves to shake down … er … apprehend evil criminals who thumb their nose at the arbitrary speed limits imposed by gubmint bureaucrats.

As I passed along one such area, I spotted a uniformed government enforcer, who was within the traffic up in front of me, peal away and drive down into a median clearing. The spot showed ample evidence of being heavily used as an ambuscade for rousting travelers and separating them from the fruits of their labor.

The gubmint’s revenue bitch was apparently returning from a successful shakedown …er … traffic stop, and the thrill of it had not completely waned within him. He felt compelled to spin his cruiser in a tight little doughnut there in the middle of the clearing as he repositioned himself for the next victim … er… criminal.

It must be nice when you know you are above all the laws and regulations that the average citizen must rigidly adhere to - lest the state send in the black-masked, dog killers to set them aright.

A brilliant summary of all that's going wrong in America

I wish I could claim credit for this. But it's actually from Neal Boortz.

• Look into the Social Security Trust Fund. Does is really exist? Social Security benefits now exceed the amount collected in Social Security taxes. If there is no money in the Trust Fund, where will the money come from to pay these benefits?

• China seems to be running into a little snag with their economy. Soon they might not be in the mood to buy any foreign debt. When that happens (when, not if) who will se sell our bonds too? At what interest rate?

• Here's a simple task. Try to find someone who can explain to you how we will be able to afford to pay Social Security and Medicare benefits ... together with ObamaCare ... in, say, ten years.

• The United States has the second-highest corporate income tax in the world - second to Japan. Ask some businessmen to explain how this helps create much-needed jobs.

• Virtually all of the personal income taxes in the United States are paid by just 47% of those who actually have income. This means that about 53% of the people are getting a free ride. Jobs and economic growth come from the 47%, not the 53%. What does this tell you about America's future?

• Speaking of America's future: The life-expectancy of a representative government based on the rule of law with personal and economic liberty is right around 200 years. We're about three decades beyond our life expectancy. Try to explain why we're bulletproof and our system of government simply cannot collapse under regulatory and debt load.

• If two fat Asian women wearing traditional Japanese garb robbed a bank, try to explain how police would catch these two without profiling. Would the "BOLO" alert simply say "Be on the lookout for two people who robbed a bank ....... ?"

• Study the 10th Amendment to our Constitution. Then try to find one politician in Washington who actually tries to govern in accordance with these instructions from our founding fathers.

• Are you watching what's happening in Greece? Do you know that the European Union and the International Monetary Fund have just approved a ONE TRILLION dollar bailout fund for countries like Greece, Portugal, Spain and others? Oh, you did? Well ... did you know that American taxpayers are on the hook for $50 billion of those dollars in that bailout fund? Just where is that money going to come from?

• Do you have health insurance through your employer? Well, isn't that special. Are you aware that some of America's largest employers are considering dropping their employee health benefits as ObamaCare goes into effect? Why? Because they get rid of a massive headache. Besides, it would be cheaper for them just to pay the penalty to the government rather than pay for all of those expensive health plans. Reconcile this with Obama's promise that you would be able to keep your health insurance plan if you liked it.

• A little reading of history will show you that despots and tyrants know that they must control the flow of information if they are to maintain power. In recent days your President has been telling graduates that all of this information is "putting pressure" on them and "our democracy." Obama's FCC has also made moves to control the Internet. Is there any reason to believe that Obama has a problem with the free flow of information in our society?

• A wager earner pays $5000 in income taxes. He needs that money to bring his mortgage current and to pay for some medical expenses. Instead the money is given to a puppet theatre to build some new puppets and scenery. Do you have a problem with that?

• Do illegal immigrants in the Southwest United States believe that they are there illegally? Do you realize that 58% of the people in Mexico are of the opinion that the Southwestern United States actually belongs to Mexico and not to the United States?

• Our borders with Mexico are still wide open. List the reasons why politicians might not want to stem the flood of illegals into the United States.

• Try to figure out why a school system owned by the government, operated by the government and staffed by government employees would NOT teach your children that government is the answer to all of their problems.

• Do some research to figure out where the jobs come from. You'll find that almost all new private sector jobs ... as much as 80% ... come from small businesses, not corporations. The owners of these small businesses report their income on their personal income tax returns. They aren't hiring. Study the situation and try to figure out why they're sitting on the sidelines. Could it possibly have anything to do with the fact that they're scared s#!tless about all of the regulations and tax increases Obama has in store for them?

• Considering the fact that we have a president who has called the private sector "the enemy;" a president who clearly does not favor the concept of free enterprise and capitalism ... is there the slightest chance that this president might be engaged in an intentional effort to destroy or cripple our free market economy so that he can replace it with a centrally-planned economy more to his liking? Even the SLIGHTEST chance?

Mojave desert veterans cross stolen!

LOS ANGELES – Thieves have stolen a cross in the Mojave Desert that honored American war dead, less than two weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court allowed the religious symbol to remain on federal land.

The 7-foot-high cross was stolen late Sunday or early Monday by thieves who cut the metal bolts that attached the symbol to a rock in the sprawling desert preserve, National Park Service spokeswoman Linda Slater said.

Authorities had no immediate motive for the theft but ideas range from scrap metal scavengers to people "with an interest in the case," Slater said.

A $25,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thieves, she said.

Veterans groups were outraged.

"The American Legion expects whoever is responsible for this vile act to be brought to justice," said Clarence Hill, the group's national commander. "While the memorial has been attacked, the fight will continue to ensure that veterans memorials will remain sacrosanct."

The Veterans of Foreign Wars first placed a cross on the rock in 1934 to honor the dead troops of World War I. Slater said she did not know when the latest version was erected.

Late last month, the Supreme Court refused to order the removal of the cross by a 5-4 vote in a controversial case focusing on the separation of church and state.

The cross had been covered with plywood while the U.S. Supreme Court decided the case but vandals tore off the cover over the weekend. Maintenance workers went out to the rock to replace it and discovered the cross was missing, Slater said.

The VFW promised that the memorial will be rebuilt.

"This was a legal fight that a vandal just made personal to 50 million veterans, military personnel and their families," National Commander Thomas J. Tradewell said.

The remote rock is about 70 miles south of Las Vegas and 200 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

Before I was a Marine, I was a Southerner

U.S. Marines boot recruits with Confederate tattoos
You won't believe what military thinks of historic Southern symbol

A widely regarded Southern symbol of pride and states' rights is standing in the way of would-be Marines in their quest to serve their country – a Confederate battle flag.

Straight out of high school, one 18-year-old Tennessee man was determined to serve his country as a Marine. His friend said he passed the pre-enlistment tests and physical exams and looked forward with excitement to the day he would ship out to boot camp.

But there would be no shouting drill instructors, no rigorous physical training and no action-packed stories for the aspiring Marine to share with his family.

Shortly before he was scheduled to leave Nashville for boot camp, the Marine Corps rejected him.

Now, the young man, who wishes to remain unnamed and declined to be interviewed, has chosen to return to school and is no longer an aspiring Marine.

"I think he just wants to let it go," said former Marine 1st Lt. Gene Andrews, a friend of the man and patriotic Southerner who served in Vietnam from 1968 through 1971. Andrews is a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a group of male descendents of Confederate soldiers. He counseled the young man when he decided to become a Marine.

"He had been talking to me, and he was all fired up about joining," he told WND. "He asked my opinion of it, and I just tried to tell him the truth, good points and bad points."

When the young recruit didn't go to boot camp, Andrews learned of his rejection based on his tattoo of the Confederate battle flag on his shoulder.

GR4U - I've spent most of my life studying Marine Corps history, and it is a fact that Southerners have always comprised a disproportionate percentage of combat Marines. But I guess in these politically correct times, that no longer matters. This truly sickens and disgusts me. The thought has crossed my mind to go get a Confederate Flag tattooed over my Marine Corps Emblem tattoo.

For the first time, details of America's nuclear stockpile have been released

Another big "Thank You" is in order for the Obongo administration!

Read about it here:

Yesterday, the Obama administration released the DoD's official nuclear stockpile figures. For decades, the size and shape of America's atomic arsenal have been deliberately kept secret, and for good reason. There's always been a calculated sense of ambiguity around our nuclear forces and our deterrence strategies, with the logic being that an enemy --if left to speculate about how, when, where, and if we'd use our nukes-- would err on the side of caution and keep his fangs tucked.

How the current administration is pursuing job growth

It's all at the IRS!!

IRS continues audit trend away from large corporations and toward smaller businesses

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has reduced the number of hours agents spend auditing corporations with assets of $250 million or more by one-third since 2005 and increased the number of hours spent on audits of companies with assets of less than $10 million by 30 percent, according to a report bythe Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), a nonpartisan research group affiliated with Syracuse University.

This trend in IRS priorities will not yield greater revenue gains. Data show that audits of larger corporations produce significantly higher returns per audit hour – $9,354, for audits of large corporations compared to $1,025 for small to mid-size companies. Revenue per audit hour for large companies increased from $6,594 in the five-year period revenue from audits of small to mid-size companies actually decreased in 2009 from the $1,294 reported for 2005.

IRS statistics show 94 percent of tax underreporting comes from large companies, with only 6 percent coming from small companies, the study reports.

The authors of the study, TRAC co-directors Susan Long and David Burnham, find that that the current political context makes this shift even more puzzling. "The dramatic collapse in the auditing of those corporations with assets of $250 million or more has occurred during a period of increasing national concerns about growing federal deficits, growing public distrust of big business, and intense worry about the extent of white collar crime personified by executives like the investment adviser, Bernard Madoff."

Other statistics based on data provided to TRAC confirm the trend. The number of large corporate audits has fallen from 4,693 in 2005 to 3,675 in 2009. The audit rate of these companies has also fallen, from 43 percent of all returns in 2005 to 25 percent in 2009. While the total number of returns filed by large corporations has increased from 11,027 to 14,683 since 2005, the number of large company returns filed but not audited has decreased significantly, from 57 percent of returns not audited in 2005 to 75 percent of returns not audited in 2009.

Susan Long, co-director of TRAC and faculty member at Syracuse University's Whitman School of Management told AccountingWEB that that the trend could not be explained by a shortage of resources, because the IRS was hiring more staff during the period. "The IRS also was not responding to return growth, since where returns were growing fastest -- larger corporations -- they were cutting back the most, and where returns were declining -- smaller corporations -- they were expanding their audit hours."

At least 18 Santa Cruz businesses suffered damage during May Day riot

SANTA CRUZ — Downtown business owners spent Sunday repairing shattered windows and doors after a May Day rally Saturday night turned into a riot with approximately 250 people marching along Pacific Avenue, some carrying makeshift torches, throwing large rocks and paint bombs, and spray-painting walls with graffiti.

At least 18 businesses suffered damage during the rally in honor of international workers that began at 9 p.m. and escalated into mayhem around 10:30 p.m., police said. Investigators estimated damage at $100,000, though some business owners said it could be more. No injuries were reported.

On Sunday, sea green-colored glass littered sidewalks where windows and glass doors had been smashed. Maintenance workers, many getting called in the middle of the night, boarded up windows with plywood until new sheets of glass could be installed.
