Mark Steyn has something to say

His message delivery style may cause one to chuckle, but the message itself is frightening. Here's an excerpt.

The object is to reduce and eventually eliminate alternatives – to subsume everything within the Big Government monopoly. Statists prefer national one-size-fits all – and ultimately planet-wide one-size-fits-all. Borders create the nearest thing to a free market in government – as the elite well understand when they seek to avoid the burdens they impose on you. John Kerry, a Big Tax senator from a Big Tax state, preferred to register his yacht in Rhode Island to avoid half-a-million bucks in cockamamie Massachusetts “boat sales and use” tax. Howard Metzenbaum, the pro-Death Tax senator from Ohio, adjusted his legal residency just before he died from Ohio to Florida, because the former had an estate tax and the latter didn’t. This is federalism at work: States compete, and, when they get as rapacious as Massachusetts, even their own pro-tax princelings start looking for the workarounds.

Bazillionaire senators will always have workarounds – for their land, for their yachts, for their health care. You won’t.

Meanwhile, they’re relaxed about cities and states going broke - because it’s a great pretext for propelling government ever upward. When California goes bankrupt, the Golden State’s woes will be nationalized and shared with the nation at large. As with everything from mortgages to credit cards, so it goes for states: the feckless must have their pathologies rewarded and the prudent get stuck with the tab. Passing Sacramento’s buck to Washington accelerates the centralizing pull in American politics and eventually eliminates any advantage to voting with your feet. It will be as if California and New York have burst their bodices like two corpulent gin-soaked trollops and rolled over the fruited plain to rub bellies at the Mississippi. If you’re underneath, it’s not going to be fun.

I hope you will go ahead and read it all here.

Ever wonder when the time will have come to push back?

Coordinated Illumination provides one excellent criteria for use in evaluating that very important question.

Tuesday

Imagine if...

Just imagine if a Republican president made a comment to the effect the democrats could "...come for the ride. But they gotta sit at the back of the bus."

I did a Google search for the phrase "Obama back of the bus" and I could only find it mentioned on The Beaufort Observer.

Like I said... just imagine Bush or ANY republican making such a remark!

Wednesday

Shooting at buildings?

Someone has found it expedient to take some late night pot-shots at both the Pentagon and the Marine Corps Museum.

Tuesday

Why worry about this country's future?

Why should I worry over the debt levels?
Why should I fret over the militarization of the police?
Why do I care that Liberty is being systematically eradicated?
Why is it a problem for us to abandon rule by law?
Why should I be concerned at the debasement of the US Dollar

Why?

Because one day I will have to look my granddaughter in the face and explain to her what I did (or didn't do) to prevent the destruction of the Republic by enemies foreign and domestic!

Why the elections don’t matter

I hear the steady hue and cry around me all the time: "Wait til November", as if the damage done by generations of steadily growing collectivist governments could be undone in a single referendum.

But here's why I think we're just fooling ourselves:

1. Obama minion, David Axlerod has already hinted strongly that his boss is prepared to do an end-run around an uncooperative Congress by use of his army of unelected Czars.

2. In that same interview with the LA Times, Axlerod also hints at extensive (and almost never challenged) use of Executive Orders to further the collectivist agenda.

3. The “Justice Dept” has made clear its intent to NOT reign in voter intimidation when it’s done by the left. Going to the polls could be a new experience for many people this November!

4. The strategy of relentless vote recounts in close elections has paid off handsomely. Why abandon what has clearly yielded results: Think Al Franken

5. And even if a few ostensibly conservative candidates are elected, watch how fast the putrid climate of Washington works its black magic on them. Fresh apples tossed into a barrel of already rotten fruit only results in more rotten fruit.

6. The relentless spin and smear campaign of the big media outlets will be brought to focus on any remaining holdouts against the corrupting influences of Washington. Look at the villification of Palin, or Gingrich, or anybody that dares to break out of lockstep with the collectivists.

Liberty in America has only one chance: Armed Americans demonstrating a willingness to resist the advent of tyranny. And my faith in Elmer Fudd has never been that strong!

Quote of the day

"Single acts of tyranny may be ascribed to the accidental opinion of the day; but a series of oppressions, begun at a distinguished period, and pursued unalterably through every change of ministers (administrators) too plainly proves a deliberate, systematic plan of reducing us to slavery."

Thomas Jefferson

Today's must read essay by Bob Hall

Bob Hall’s essay is entitled Seven Rules for Progressives, and in one short missive, he has encapsulated and articulated all that’s wrong with liberalism.

Perfect example: Mr. Hall points out that Rachael Carson’s grave ought to be topped with a pile of African skulls. Her book Silent Spring led to the worldwide banning on DDT; all based on junk science, all wrong, and with the result that malaria and other mosquito-born diseases are responsible for scores of millions of deaths in the Third-World, all due to one liberal author’s wrongheaded view of pesticides!

Have any liberal friends that you respect for their sincerity? Just keep in mind that being sincerely wrong, is still merely wrong!

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - CS Lewis

Quotes of the Day!

"Freedom has ceased to be a birthright; it has come to mean whatever we are still permitted to do."

40 Places to hide guns

I was pointed to this interesting piece over at ItsTactical.com by Son of Liberty. Thanks!

40 Unique Places to Stash Firearms

They're coming for your 401K account

BREAKING NEWS!

Democrats in the Senate on Thursday held a recess hearing covering a taxpayer bailout of union pensions and a plan to seize private 401(k) plans to more "fairly" distribute taxpayer-funded pensions to everyone.

Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee heard from hand-picked witnesses advocating the infamous "Guaranteed Retirement Account" (GRA) authored by Theresa Guilarducci.

=====================
The looters in Washington need more money. And they see that 3 Trillon in retirement accounts as ripe for the picking! You didn't think they were gonna simply raise your taxes did you?

Here's Dr Guilarducci's plan for your 401k. Note how taxes are called "contributions" and tax cuts are called "spending". Typical liberal-speak by people who think that everything belongs to government, and they're being nice to let you have the fruit of your own labors.

Stand by for rule by Executive Order

Everyone I know is happily expecting a return to normalacy when the Repukes sweep the November elections. Never mind that if you run off one bunch of crooks, you just make room for a new set of crooks to take their place.

But there are indications that Obongo will simply do an end-run AROUND an uncooperative Congress and continue his America-destroying agenda with the issuance of Executive Orders.

Give this a read and ponder the implications for the future of your children: RULE BY EXECUTIVE ORDER IN 2011?

If this doesn't make you angry, you're the enemy!

Affiliation with Oath Keepers used as justification to seize newborn from parents

This needs to go viral!

“We told them that we wanted the have the pediatrician come check out the baby so that we could get discharged and go home… Well the director of security comes in with the head nurse and say “No we are going to take the baby to the nursery to have the pediatrician check her out so you guys can go home” They lied to us! They got us to allow them to take our daughter under false pretenses, as a matter of fact, we didn’t even have a choice. I tried to stop them and tell them to bring the doctor in the room and they refused to, and they just wheeled our daughter out… I see three different individuals wearing suits and I saw detective badges…. I am like… Who are they!? And she says DCYF which is Division of Child Youth and Family Services. Next thing you know three uniform patrolmen and I think 3 or 4 detectives… … and proceeded to tell me that they are taking my daughter. My fiance didn’t even get any time to bond with the baby. They came in and stole our child! In the affidavit… … it says that they know I have affiliations… … a militia known as the Oath Keepers. And first of all, I don’t know if you know anything about Oath Keepers, but they are a far, far cry from a militia. As a matter of fact the Oath Keepers frown upon any kind of uprising, I guess you can say, which is what a militia could be… …Tried to refuse to allow me to give my daughter a hug and a kiss… got to spend a few minutes with my daughter and then we were told to leave…”

The affidavit said “… the Division became aware and confirmed that Mr. Irish associated with a militia known as the “Oath Keepers”…” It was in forms from the DHHS and DCYF and signed by “Child Protective Service Worker” Dana Bicford on October 7th at 11:57AM.

Read about here.

UPDATE: The actual affidavit has been posted at Prison Planet.

Da judge says "Hell yes we can!"

Every time I hear someone spout nonsense about how our gooberment has built in checks and balances, I want to just puke!

The Executive branch has stretched the “interstate commerce clause” of the US Constitution all the way out to the orbit of Uranus with a mandate that Americans must buy health coverage. And an Imperial Federal Gooberment judge has ruled that this is perfectly acceptable!

My question is simply this: Is there ANYTHING under the sun that can’t be rationalized under the interstate commerce clause? Of course as we are seeing with our very own eyes, the answer is a definite “No”. EVERYTHING is fair game to be regulated, taxed, mandated, overseen, counted, and controlled by Imperial Washington!

Observations of a bus rider

I watched a little boy saunter slowly towards his school bus this morning. He was the only child boarding that bus, and traffic on the four-lane thoroughfare was brought to a standstill as the youngster took his sweet-assed time getting aboard.

My own trips to school came to mind as I sat there trapped by the capriciousness of this little kid. For the first six years I attended school I lived about a tenth of a mile inside the school bus boundary, meaning no public transportation for me. And my parents being dirt-poor products of the depression era saw absolutely nothing wrong with a child walking a mile and a half to school each day. So come rain or shine, heat or cold, I walked to and from school every day for grades one through sixth.

Later, in response to the Brown vs. Board of education ruling, the education authorities found it expedient to bus me across town to a school where I was numbered among the other 5% of Caucasian high school students – for the purpose I presume of making black students feel assured of getting the same lousy education that the white kids got.

Boarding the bus back in the late 70’s was no lollygagging affair of the sort I witnessed this morning. Our bus driver would toot her horn is she discerned that anyone’s feet was stuck in low gear. And if the horn did not bring the desired result you would perhaps get one verbal warning before being left behind at the bus stop.

Today, if the bus driver blew the horn at a slowmoving bus rider, he/she would almost certainly be scolded by authorities. And if a kid were left behind for such behavior, then the bus driver would probably be unemployed. While I realize that child-directed sex crimes of recent times make it more important to safeguard kids more stringently, I know that coddling and babying today’s kids is the universal norm.

What a slack and self-entitled society we’ve become; a far cry from the rugged self-supporting individualistic breed that characterized America’s past.

Here's a man who "gets it"

This is the sermon delivered on the first day of Rosh Hashanah by Rabbi Shalom Lewis of Atlanta.

Excerpts:

In WWII we won because we got it. We understood who the enemy was and we knew that the end had to be unconditional and absolute. We did not stumble around worrying about offending the Nazis. We did not measure every word so as not to upset our foe. We built planes and tanks and battleships and went to war to win‚... to rid the world of malevolence. We are at war‚ yet too many stubbornly and foolishly don't put the pieces together and refuse to identify the evil doers. We are circumspect and disgracefully politically correct.

The mystifying litany of our foolishness continues. Should there be a shul in Hebron on the site where Baruch Goldstein gunned down twenty-seven Arabs at noonday prayers? Should there be a museum praising the U.S. Calvary on the site of Wounded Knee? Should there be a German cultural center in Auschwitz? Should a church be built in the Syrian town of Ma'arra where Crusaders slaughtered over 100,000 Muslims? Should there be a thirteen story mosque and Islamic Center only a few steps from Ground Zero.?

Israel is the laboratory - the test market. Every death, every explosion, every grisly encounter is not a random, bloody orgy. It is a calculated, strategic probe into the heart, guts and soul of the West.
