Absolutely brilliant idea

I wish I had thought of this! But Alvie Zane did over at Cliffs of Insanity. Go read the whole thing, but here's the teaser:

Let the federal government regulate the production, distribution,
transportation, sale, and use of all drugs which are now illegal.

Show me an industry or institution that has gone (or is going) down the tubes, and I'll show you federal "help" that preceded the death spiral.

The problem with this theory is this:

After the industry is forced to bankruptcy by the federal government we (people who pay taxes) will be forced to pay for the inevitable federal government subsidies.

Remember Ronald Reagan's quote:

"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."
