Here it is in a nutshell:
"We will not disarm.
You cannot convince us.
You cannot intimidate us.
You can try to kill us, if you think you can.
But remember, we'll shoot back.
And we are not going away.
Your move."

Okay...Black Star News (I'll let their name speak for itself) publishes an editorial calling Van Jones the "Victim of hate Broadcast Terrorism". Uh huh...you're thinking the same thing I'm thinking, just by reading the title.
But so there's no doubt, here's a sample of that editorial:
Make no mistake, these hate-broadcast terrorists want to undo the results of the 2008 election. They will oppose the president on everything he does; not out of principle or the national interest, but simply because they hate the fact that the base for their narrow partisan views continue to shrink.
What a hoot! Go read the rest of it if you can stomach it!
Ahhhh but the real fun begins in the COMMENTS. By a huge majority, the bulk of the commentors tear this "editorial" to ribbons! Here's a couple of examples:
Date: September 7th, 2009
Name: BOB
Subject: YOU SUCK!
Comment: HELLO IF YOU SEE VAN JONES ASK HIM WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE GLENN BECK'S BITCH!
Date: September 7th, 2009
Name: jerry
Subject: racism, Van Jones and YOU
Comment: Its clear from your derision to these comenters that you are actually the racists. It's clear that any thoughtful rebuttal of your Van Jones whitewash is greeted with editors notes like OK Massah and the like. If anything, Black folks like you are the wedge drivers and I think you know it and I also think that is exactly what you want. I could care less what color Barack's skin is. I'd vote for a purple person with three legs if they would lead this country conservatively.

And finally....here's a reasonable comment that is followed by a response from the Editor:

Subject: Van Jones
Comment: Conservatives see through your race baiting news. You do Blacks a disservice to howl race when this is clearly an ideological issue. Right Wing vs. Left Wing. Nothing more. MLK fought to have Blacks included in the political discussions and now that you're here you whine like children when you can't get your way. Grow up Black America.
Editor's Note: Okay, Massah
I guess that's what passes for well-reasoned debate from the Left these days.

What I'm currently reading

Review by Thomas Sowell
Those who put a high value on words may recoil at the title of Jonah Goldberg's new book, "Liberal Fascism." As a result, they may refuse to read it, which will be their loss -- and a major loss.
Those who value substance over words, however, will find in this book a wealth of challenging insights, backed up by thorough research and brilliant analysis.
This is the sort of book that challenges the fundamental assumptions of its time -- and which, for that reason, is likely to be shunned rather than criticized.
Because the word "fascist" is often thrown around loosely these days, as a general term of abuse, it is good that "Liberal Fascism" begins by discussing the real Fascism, introduced into Italy after the First World War by Benito Mussolini.
The Fascists were completely against individualism in general and especially against individualism in a free market economy. Their agenda included minimum wage laws, government restrictions on profit-making, progressive taxation of capital, and "rigidly secular" schools.
Unlike the Communists, the Fascists did not seek government ownership of the means of production. They just wanted the government to call the shots as to how businesses would be run.
They were for "industrial policy," long before liberals coined that phrase in the United States.
Indeed, the whole Fascist economic agenda bears a remarkable resemblance to what liberals would later advocate.
Moreover, during the 1920s "progressives" in the United States and Britain recognized the kinship of their ideas with those of Mussolini, who was widely lionized by the left.
Famed British novelist and prominent Fabian socialist H.G. Wells called for "Liberal Fascism," saying "the world is sick of parliamentary politics."
Another literary giant and Fabian socialist, George Bernard Shaw, also expressed his admiration for Mussolini -- as well as for Hitler and Stalin, because they "did things," instead of just talk. In Germany, the Nazis followed in the wake of the Italian Fascists, adding racism in general and anti-semitism in particular, neither of which was part of Fascism in Italy or in Franco's Spain.
Even the Nazi variant of Fascism found favor on the left when it was only a movement seeking power in the 1920s.
W.E.B. DuBois was so taken with the Nazi movement that he put swastikas on the cover of a magazine he edited, despite complaints from Jewish readers.
Even after Hitler achieved dictatorial power in Germany in 1933, DuBois declared that the Nazi dictatorship was "absolutely necessary in order to get the state in order."
As late as 1937 he said in a speech in Harlem that "there is today, in some respects, more democracy in Germany than there has been in years past."
In short, during the 1920s and the early 1930s, Fascism was not only looked on favorably by the left but recognized as having kindred ideas, agendas and assumptions.
Only after Hitler and Mussolini disgraced themselves, mainly by their brutal military aggressions in the 1930s, did the left distance themselves from these international pariahs.
Fascism, initially recognized as a kindred ideology of the left, has since come down to us defined as being on "the right" -- indeed, as representing the farthest right, supposedly further extensions of conservatism.
If by conservatism you mean belief in free markets, limited government, and traditional morality, including religious influences, then these are all things that the Fascists opposed just as much as the left does today.
The left may say that they are not racists or anti-semites, like Hitler, but neither was Mussolini or Franco. Hitler, incidentally, got some of his racist ideology from the writings of American "progressives" in the eugenics movement.
Jonah Goldberg's "Liberal Fascism" is too rich a book to be summarized in a newspaper column. Get a copy and start re-thinking the received notions about who is on "the left" and who is on "the right." It is a book for people who want to think, rather than repeat rhetoric.

A movie review - Inglourious Basterds
I've long been a fan of action films, but don't let the hype suck you in on this one! It's a pure stinker in my opinion.
Remember the spaghetti westerns of the 60's? Specifically, do you remember the final gunfight scene of The Good Bad & The Ugly? Remember the LOOOOONG buildup to the shootout with the camera focused inordinately long on the antagonist's eyes and gun hands? Well Tarintino used that same gimmick about three times in IB. Once was plenty!
Also...forget ANY resemblence to reality whatsoever!
Hey I LOVE gratuitious violence in action films, but there MUST be a minimum degree of plausibility and realism for me to "make my escape" into the film. IB never comes close to achieving that minimum degree. Instead I kept checking my watch and wondering "How much longer must I endure this crap?"

Israeli Prime Minister disappears for 10 hours
I wonder what the Israelis are planning. Most experts believe the Iran is just months away from developing a nuke, and that nutcase in charge has made plain his hatred and contempt for both America AND Israel.
Gone are the days when the US posed a credible deterrent to ANYONE. So I'm sure Israel realizes they are on their own now.
I seem to recall that Israel gave Iran a deadline to stop nuclear development sometime last year. That deadline expires on September 15th.

Census Response Tactics 101
If you’re like me, and you are going to tell the Gubmint to pound sand when it comes to this ridiculous census, here’s something to keep in mind:
When the census taker comes to your door (because you’ve been throwing the mailed out form in the garbage repeatedly) he/she is probably going to be an ACORN member who has starry-eyed statist visions of serving The Messiah. My plan is to be disarmingly nice (initially) as I ask for some form of ID. After all, before I give out all that personal information I want to be sure I’m dealing with an honest-to-gosh representative of his Imperial Majesty!
If I get any hesitation from the census taker, while still being very nice and polite, I’ll point out ever so gently that he/she is asking for much more than just my ID; a strong implication of quid pro quo as it were.
Once I get the person’s name (and hopefully their address too) it’s my intention to do a major Dr. Jekyll / Mr. Hyde changeover:

“You’re outta your %$#@ing mind if you think I’m going to tell you a damn thing about me and my family, or give all my personal information to a rotten government headed by a corrupt Marxist jackass from Chicago. Now get the hell off my property, and don’t come back until you’ve read and understood the US Constitution!”
Yeah yeah... I know it won't make a bit of difference. But just the thought makes me feel good.

Fire chief shot by cop in Ark. court over tickets
Yeah...you're readin it right!
By JON GAMBRELL, Associated Press Writer Jon Gambrell, Associated Press Writer – Thu Sep 3, 7:41 pm ET
JERICHO, Ark. – It was just too much, having to return to court twice on the same day to contest yet another traffic ticket, and Fire Chief Don Payne didn't hesitate to tell the judge what he thought of the police and their speed traps.
The response from cops? They shot him. Right there in court.
Payne ended up in the hospital, but his shooting last week brought to a boil simmering tensions between residents of this tiny former cotton city and their police force. Drivers quickly learn to slow to a crawl along the gravel roads and the two-lane highway that run through Jericho, but they say sometimes that isn't enough to fend off the city ticketing machine.
"You can't even get them to answer a call because normally they're writing tickets," said Thomas Martin, chief investigator for the Crittenden County Sheriff's Department. "They're not providing a service to the citizens."

A Jamaican memory
During my youth I was a Marine Embassy Guard in Kingston Jamaica. Now before you assume that duty was all beaches and rum punch, go give this a look.
In Kingston, very far removed from the tourist areas, life was (and still is) characterized by violence, political turmoil, government corruption and crushing poverty. Few people drove nice cars, and almost no one drove a big car. So when we Marines went tooling around town in a big black 1975 Chevy Impala, we stood out like a sore thumb! Given the state-run media’s fixation with “CIA destabilization in Jamaica”, it was generally felt that we were usually identified by the Jamaicans as CIA agents.
We couldn’t have cared less who they thought we were; just as long as they weren’t shooting at us – which did occasionally happen.

One day while riding the CIA-mobile thru a hard-core socialist neighborhood (the Jamaican’s have a tendency to live in areas according to their political affiliation) we were passing down a very narrow little street called Cassava Piece. All the folks there are supporters of the PNP party and thus have pronounced anti-American sentiments.
I was on the passenger side with my arm hanging out the open window as we drove past a bus stop crowded with school kids. As we passed by, one of the boys slapped my arm hard. I certainly wasn’t going to get out and confront a bunch of kids. And just as certainly I wasn’t going to acknowledge how much it hurt. So, thinking quickly, I leaned a bit further out the window so I could be seen as I made brushing motions along my arm, as if to remove some dirt or contaminant.
Since we were only going about 15 to 20 mph, we were still close enough to hear the resulting burst of laughter from the kids at my tactic. I comforted myself to think that my “message” got thru!
